DO OR DIE - OTT - UK ITV - 2ND JAN 1982

In January 1982 with "Don't You Want Me" still number one in the UK Charts the band appear as guests on the ITV (Central) TV show Over The Top (OTT), a bizarre adult version of the anarchic kids show Tizwas.

The choice of track was constrained by the fact that DYWM fatigue was beginning to set in and the band had exhausted all the singles tracks so they play "Do or Die" from Dare, the strongest non-single album track "Darkness" being too downbeat for a show like OTT. The appearance is notable for all sorts of things: Philip's high heel boots or Jo Callis's manic keyboard bashing not even attempting to pretend the muscians aren't miming to play back. Not helped by the fact that none of the Synths are switched on, obvious by the lack of LED displays.

Already veterans of a year's worth of live performances and TV shows, the girls' confidence now shines through and they have learned to play up to the cameras. A contrast to their quite shy first performance on Top of the Pops only 9 months earlier. Susan's black patterned dress seen in this video would become a favorite of hers during the Dare tour of 81/82.
