One Man In My Heart - 1995 (Octopus)
This sweet ballad is taken from the Octopus album of 1995. It is unique in that it is the only Human League single with a female lead. The second single released from Octopus that year, it reached a respectable No 13 in the UK singles chart. The video is one of THL’s most stylish (even if some critics cruelly characterized it as a 'Starbucks commercial' at the time). It features an incredibly well dressed, business woman looking Susan in what is her most prominent role in any Human League video.
It is ironic that she will often tell interviewers (with genuine modesty) that she can neither sing or act. When this promo demonstrates her considerable screen presence and proves her clearly wrong in both cases. It is probably her finest screen performance to date, even if the public now only remember "Don't You Want Me".
The song remains a mainstay of THL live performances and one Susan clearly enjoys doing. It is also reportedly her favorite song.
It was recently called one of the best love songs of the 1990s in the British press.
